Abstract

The present study investigated achievement motivation among secondary school students in relation to gender and area of residence. A causal-comparative research design was adopted for the study. The sample consisted of secondary school students selected through multistage sampling technique from Bhubaneswar Block and Bhubaneswar Municipality area of Khordha district. Data were collected using Deo-Mohan Achievement Motivation (n-Ach) Scale. The collected data were analyzed using Two-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) to examine the main and interaction effects of gender and residence on achievement motivation. The findings revealed that both gender and residence have significant effects on achievement motivation. However, the interaction effect between gender and residence was not found to be significant. The results indicate that achievement motivation differs independently based on gender and residential background, but their combined influence does not produce a significant effect. The study highlights the importance of considering demographic factors in understanding students’ achievement motivation.
